Don't Blame Barbie™ for Being Skinny + A Sneak Peek on Barbie Magazine PH's February Ish

Let's have some real parenting talk here first. Shall we?

I assume that in wherever part of the world you are right now, there are moms who don't like Barbie. I think they are just being cynical; mostly concluding that girls who love pink, wear short skirts and sporting tiaras have shallow understanding of their femininity. These moms make their little women avoid princess stories and glitters and nail polish. In their Facebook wall, you'll see photos and statuses that say how brave, strong and intelligent their baby girls are. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's good that they want their children to see what's beyond the eyes can see. However, because of trying so hard to be outside the norm, they tend to forget to see the beauty that their little girls have. Yes, it's super OK to go on adventures and strive for strength, intellect and courage but I see nothing wrong with having pretty dresses and nail polish and tiaras, too. Don't you just love seeing those babes kick ass and sparkle?

Barbie in the Pink Shoes Exclusive Movie Screening

One of my favorite things about blogging is getting invited to various events that I personally would love to be a part of have I not become a blogger.

My little ballerina and I, in matching clothes we got from Au Pair Addizione, marched to SM City North EDSA to attend the exclusive movie screening event of Barbie™ in the Pink Shoes. Sophia was already too amazed that we were wearing matchy-matchy that she felt so donya-ish she made that pose, haha. I let her with that stance since I made a mental note that it has to be HER day - yes, all about her. It's been such a long time since I dated her out. May 5, Sunday was the perfect day to just do that. Boy, was she googly eyes the whole time!

Barbie Magazine: Sunny Adventure

My little lady and I can't wait to go to the beaches of Zambales or if the king's blessed with time, Hundred Islands of Pangasinan. Truly, summer will not be as happy as it should be for my water baby without getting tanned. It's not only us mortals who celebrate the season with a bang. The 50+ year-old Barbie is into it, too, through her monthly magazine!

Last Monday, LB got her copy and instantly colored the pages. There were stickers, stories and poster about A Mermaid Tale. The back of the poster featured another photo of Barbie in the movie, The Island Princess. My little peacock was giggling like crazy when she saw Barbie's peacock-inspired gown. ♥

Barbie Magazine: Dress Up and Party

80s Barbie c/o Hey Little Birdie
Owning a Barbie doll is like a little girl's rite of passage. Parang kulang ang pagkabagets mo when you didn't have one, noh? I used to have that! I think I never owned a real Mattel-made Barbie, but a very kind childhood friend named Ikay gave me one. Senti-wise, I should have kept it pala for my LB. But my little boss doesn't appreciate dolls that much yet. Like what I have mentioned on my earlier posts, she re-creates. She uses things not for its real function. Imagine, yung lampin eh ibabalumbon (make into a ball) niya then ilalagay sa baso kunwari, tapos maglalagay siya ng color pencil niya dun. Ta-daah! Strawberry shake daw yun. Kalerks. But her Barbie dolls (she has 2 original dolls and 4 mapagpanggap ones) naman ay real dolls for her. She plays with it. So I thought of introducing Barbie in a way she has to know the glam plastic phenomenal toy. I did it old-school style --- through reading; the Barbie Magazine, that is! ♡
